To empower students with dyslexia to become independent and successful learners.
Claremont School is a specialized private co-educational school in Toronto, Ontario, serving students at the elementary level. Individualized, inclusive education with specialized support for diverse learning needs.
We believe that students with dyslexia have abilities and gifts that our society needs. While respecting these strengths and imparting the knowledge that will unlock their academic potential, we will serve both the students and our community as a whole. Literacy is a priority. Students experience a literature-rich environment that will develop their reading and writing skills while emphasizing analysis and creativity. All students will receive Orton-Gillingham/Practical Linguistics instruction. Across the curriculum in subjects including math, science and social studies, lessons are adapted to meet the reading levels of the students so that students can access the curriculum at their appropriate grade level. We believe that students excel when they are able to organize their materials and manage their time appropriately. Thus, the school makes it a priority to ensure that our students receive close monitoring and instruction in these areas.
Claremont School offers Traditional and Other curriculums, with specializations in Dyslexia, Language, Math, Early Literacy, and Numeracy.
First Steps Program and Structured Literacy class
Claremont School cultivates a supportive environment specifically designed for students with dyslexia, where structured literacy instruction using the Orton-Gillingham approach forms the foundation of learning. The school emphasizes building academic confidence and self-belief alongside literacy skills, with a maximum 10:1 student-teacher ratio that allows for tailored instruction. The community celebrates milestones like kindergarten class graduations and maintains a literature-rich environment where students experience success through carefully adapted curriculum across all subjects.
Claremont School's approach centers on recognizing and serving students with dyslexia as individuals with distinct abilities and gifts. The school philosophy explicitly states that students with dyslexia have strengths that society needs, and the curriculum is specifically designed to unlock their academic potential while respecting these strengths. The school also operates the Claremont Dyslexia Foundation, a not-for-profit providing bursaries and grants to support students with dyslexia.
The school actively welcomes parent involvement and emphasizes close collaboration between families, teachers, and students. Parents engage through the Parent Council, receive updates via The Claremont Newsletter, and participate in Open Houses and school events.
